- [Instructor] Aside from imagining what the future of robotics could look like, artificial intelligence has a bit more of a simpler definition. For this course, I will be working with the definition of artificial intelligence as being the completion of a task by a computer system that would usually be done by a person. Machine learning is the act of making inferences by learning patterns from data interactions. So you could ask, how is this different from any other sort of data work that's already been done in the past? Well, it isn't really. As time has gone by, the methods that we use in data mining in the '80s and the '90s merged into data science, which, when applied, grew into more complex applications like what we see with deep learning, and the main drivers of these change have been the areas of computing, research, and data.
