Maintaining your system
- [Instructor] One important aspect of keeping information safe is ensuring that the hardware where information is used stays updated and secured. Operating systems are often patched or updated to address security concerns or to add new features. If you have hardware that's owned by a company, it's likely that they enforce policies which do this for you, though it never hurts to check. If you're uncertain, reach out to your IT team, and ask what, if any, maintenance tasks you're responsible for. In many cases, you'll likely be asked just to restart the system every now and then or to accept updates when they appear. If you're a freelancer, keeping your system updated and secure is just as important, though you'll need to handle more of the details yourself.
