Managing online passwords

- [Instructor] The best rule for online passwords is to use a different one for each of your online accounts. The goal is the keep a single compromised password from affecting more than one online site. So if you keep different passwords on different sites, how do you manage them? First, I recommend that you write down the online account, the site or service you used, your sign-in, and the password. Do this in an inconspicuous place. For example, don't create a text file titled passwords and put everything in there. I'm fond of writing passwords in books or other references near my desk. And it's important that you jot down both the sign-in name and the password. This is because some online accounts use an email address as your account name, and others don't. If they use an email address, ensure that you have the proper address, especially if you use more than one.
