Managing server uptime

- [Instructor] A robust backup and recovery strategy will protect you from catastrophic data loss, but it does nothing for preventing downtime. Database administrators must plan ahead to ensure that their database is available as often as possible. Servers become unavailable for a wide variety of reasons, a hardware or a software failure, natural disaster, or a malicious attack can take your system down, making it inaccessible by your users or customers. The cost of a server outage can range from a mere inconvenience up to significant financial losses from missed business opportunities. In an emergency, when a server goes down, it's typically an all-hands-on-deck event to restore the system to full operational status as quickly as possible.
