- [Instructor] Security professionals are often responsible for the selection and secure management of operating systems in many different computing environments. As we begin a conversation about device security, let's talk about the various types of operating systems found in the modern enterprise. You're probably most familiar with workstation operating systems. These are the operating systems that power laptop and desktop computers. Typically these devices run either Windows or Mac OS X, but some workstations do run versions of the Linux operating system. Servers are special-purpose high-performance computers designed to provide services to other users. They typically reside in a data center and come in rack-mountable form for space efficiency.
