From the course: Lessons from Data Scientists
Overcoming obstacles
- So oftentimes in my job, I'll be faced with something where the customer or stakeholder is asking for something that's either not possible with the data given or they don't really know what they're asking for and they don't realize that what they're asking for is kind of mission impossible based on what you have. So, one way that I try to deal with that is going back and having a conversation with that person, and really making sure you understand what the need is. And if the need is truly something that you can't do with the current data that you have, figuring out a solution to say, if this is really a need, then we need to implement some type of platform that we can start collecting this data. Because if the data is not there in the first place, you can't do anything else. You have to go back to step one and figure out what data is really there, and if it's not what we need, how can we start collecting and ingesting what we really need to look at?
