- [Narrator] As of 2018, the global population was estimated to be about 7.6 billion people. Consider that humans have been around for about 200,000 years and that the concept of civilization has been around for about 10,000 years. It's incredible to think that only about 108 billion humans have ever walked this planet, which means that about 7% of all humans that have ever existed are alive right now. Statistics help us understand how our species has grown, how our world has changed, and what may lie ahead. One billion people. Consider that it took all of human history up until 1803 for the world to reach a population of one billion humans, but that every 12 years between 1975 and 2011, another one billion people were added to the planet. Another cool way to look at population growth is via doubling rates. In other words, how long does it take for the world's population to double? It's estimated that it took 700 years for the global population to go from 250 million to 500 million…
