Port testing

- [Instructor] Port tester, written by Mateo Marquez Conley, is a simple but useful tool for checking whether specific ports are open for accessing a target URL. This checks the pathway to the URL, including any proxy or firewall that might be positioned in front of it. This tool can be downloaded from the site shown. It's a zip file containing a Java JAR executable. I have the port tester loaded on my Windows 7 system, so let's use it to look at the Metasploit server. The tool displays a window in which we can enter a URL and port numbers, and it will run a very quick check to see if these are open. Let's try port 53 on our Metasploit system. I'll enter the IP and port number and press Test. Okay, we have a DNS service operating. Let's put in a few more ports and test them. And we quickly see which of these ports are open. While we can do a full scan of a system, this tool is useful when we have a very specific port or set of ports to check on a firewall.
