Recovering from storage failures

- [Instructor] Disk failures happen. It's a fact of storage administration. It's never fun when a disk fails, but when it does, it's important to know how to replace it, and how to protect your data. Luckily for us, replacing a disk in the FreeNAS interface only takes a few steps. Generally speaking, the steps go like this: we'll identify the disk to replace, mark it offline, safely replace it with a new disk, and replace the disk in the pool. Let's take a look at those steps. First, we need to know which disk to replace. To do that, we need to identify as much information about the disk as we can, so we can find it, and remove the correct one. Often, this is helped by knowing the model number and serial number of the disk, which we can match with the information printed on the drive itself. We can find this information, either in the disks section of the storage menu, or in the edit area for the disk, in the pool…
