- [Instructor] They meet, they date, they get married. While that's still the path for many people how and when they get through each stage has changed drastically. In the late 80s about 30% met their romantic partners through communal friends, 25% met in bars or restaurants, 20% were coworkers, 10% met in college or were high school sweethearts, anther 10% were neighbors, 0% met online. By 2010 only about 15% had met through friends, only 8% were coworkers and meeting people in college or dating your neighbors had both dropped to the low single digits. Yes you might date someone at your college, or date someone that lives nearby but you didn't meet them in college or near your residence. You met those nearby people online. Almost 70% of the people were meeting their romantic partners online.
