- [Instructor] Humans are constantly on the go, traveling from one place to the next, sometimes to get to work, sometimes to get to school. We may use transportation to get to our preferred leisure activities, and of course, choosing your transportation mode may be an important part of planning your vacation. And still, in other cases, transportation is exercise, or just plain fun, but in every case, the chosen mode of transportation carries some risk, risk of injury, or even death. So how can we assess just how much risk comes with more common modes of transport? Well, for the 10-year period spanning from the year 2000 to 2009, here's the number of US deaths for different modes of human travel. As you can see, road fatalities top the list. Cars and light trucks account for over 300,000 fatalities. Motorcycles, another 41,000, and buses claimed about 304 lives. But some of the modes of transport on that list are more…
