Sharing storage on the network
- [Instructor] Once our storage is set up and we have organized places for data to go, we need to set up FreeNAS to share storage on the network. Here in the sharing section of the web interface, I can see a list of the sharing protocols that FreeNAS supports. These include AFP for use with Macs, and NFS, which does work with Windows, Mac OS and Linux, but which usually isn't the right choice for general file sharing. That's useful if you have specific requirements that demand it. You can also create a WebDAV share to publish the information using web technologies, or we can create an SMB, or CIFS share, which is a good choice for multi-platform use, and you can share a zvol for iSCSI if you need to set up network block storage to provide a raw device to a remote system.
