- [Instructor] On June 20th, 1975, the movie, "Jaws" was released. And just like that, the summer blockbuster was born. All other May to July releases that year combined for a total gross revenues of $110 million. "Jaws" with its first of its kind large-scale promotional campaign grossed over $490 million. Interestingly, in 1975, including "Jaws," only six films were released in June and only three films were released in July and August combined. Oddly, not much happened in 1976. The biggest May through July releases combined grossed a total of $127 million, but movies take a long time to produce. One year may not have given the movie industry enough time to adjust. And then came May 25th, 1977. A little movie called "Star Wars" debut. It would gross over $800 million, but "Star Wars" was not alone. In June, there were a large number of releases in the comedy, kids, and action genres. In total, other 1977 summer releases grossed $493 million. This includes a few other giant movies so…
