- [Instructor] 2020, an odd and historic year by any measure, a year when words like mask, vaccine, lockdown and PPE became commonplace in daily discussion. All excellent fodder for a statistical video. But those aren't the topics for today's video. The global pandemic spurned still another curiosity. For a period of time in the United States, toilet paper fought for its share of headlines. Why toilet paper? Perhaps a need for a low stakes story, or maybe, a showcase of an American obsession. Consider this. While the United States is roughly only 4% of the world's population, the U.S. accounts for 20% of global toilet paper consumption, that's over 4.5 billion rolls of toilet paper annually for the U.S. alone, about 130 million rolls per day. Where does all that toilet paper come from? Well, the U.S. isn't just obsessed with using toilet paper. The U.S. is responsible for about 99% of the global tissue production.…
