Turning off a stubborn computer

- [Instructor] The temptation is high. The computer won't shut down so you consider yanking that power cord from the wall. This trick works, but not for a laptop. And it's not the best way to solve the problem. The reasons why a computer won't shut down are countless. In fact, I recommend that you wait at least two or three minutes before determining that the computer is stuck and unable to turn itself off. Have patience before you do something drastic. Unlike computers of old, the power button on a modern system is not an on off switch. Pressing the power button sends a signal to the systems power management software. To override the signal press and hold the power button and eventually the system turns itself off. Some desktop PCs feature a rocker switch on the power supply.
