Types of remote data science jobs

- If you want a data science job, you should really take the time to consider that the term data scientist can mean different things for different companies, just like how the term data science can encompass many subjects like statistics, machine learning, data analysis, and more. In this video, I'll share some of the main types of remote data science roles so you can focus your job search. The first type is a data analyst. These jobs can revolve around creating dashboards and filling reporting needs. Sometimes you'll find that some companies advertise data analyst roles as data scientist roles to get more applicants. The next type are machine learning engineering jobs. These roles can revolve around best coding practices, developing machine learning models, and putting them into production. If you're from a software engineering background, this path might be the path of least resistance into a data science job. The next job is a data engineer. They're commonly in charge of managing data workflows, pipelines, and ETL processes. There's a massive demand for data engineers. And another common role is a decision scientist. In my experience, the role is commonly associated with running AB tests and requires knowledge of statistical methods. Finally, there are the research and applied science roles. These jobs often involve cutting-edge machine learning or tool development. If you have a PhD in a quantitative field, you have an advantage in securing one of these jobs. If you're looking for a remote job, there aren't a ton of these roles available currently. This will probably change in the future. With all this in mind, don't worry if you don't fit into one role. There are hybrid roles, which are a combination of multiple roles. In fact, if you want to remotely freelance, it would be advantageous for you to have a more diverse set of skills as the more you can do, the more options you have. Now, I encourage you to weigh your career options and find what role is best for you.
