- [Narrator] The United States president. To be an eligible candidate you must have been born in the United States, live the US for at least 14 years and be at least 35 years old. So, let's examine these commanders in chief by looking at some presidential statistics. While the age of 35 is the minimum age the United States has never had a president that took office in their 30s. In fact, Theodore Roosevelt who took office at the age of 42 years and 322 days was the youngest person to ever become the president of the United States. In total, two presidents have started their presidencies in their 70s, nine in their 40s, 10 in their 60s and 25 over half the presidents have started their presidency in their 50s. In fact, the median age of US presidents for the 46 presidents at the start of their term is 55 years and 105 days.
