Understanding the threat actor
- [Narrator] Threat actors are individuals or entities with malicious intent that launch cyber attacks against individuals, governments, or organizations. When discussing threat actors, we might also hear the term hacker. Let's take a look at where the threat actor fits in this category. Hackers are generally grouped in one of three ways, white, gray, and black hat hackers. The white hat hackers are generally security specialist who conduct ethical hacking in an organization. Gray and black hat hackers try to gain entry into a system without appropriate permission. Gray hat hackers tend to be more mischievous than malicious and push the envelope to see if they can gain access to a system. Black hat hackers have a goal of causing harm and use their talent for criminal or malicious activity. Now, threat actors are a subcategory of gray and black hat hackers and include the following.
