- [Instructor] Before we finish up, let's take some time to go over a few upgrade scenarios. There are two types of upgrading to talk about here, software upgrades and hardware upgrades. When a new version of FreeNAS is available, you'll be able to find it in the Upgrade section of the System menu in the web interface. There, you can check for an updated release of the version you're using. Or, you can upload an update file manually. Upgrading FreeNAS upgrades the operating system, but doesn't make any changes to your ZFS pools. So, if there's a new version of ZFS, you still need to explicitly upgrade that, if you want to use new features. When you're upgrading either the OS or the ZFS version, it's a good idea to make sure you have a working backup before making changes.
