Using OSINT to find email addresses
- [Instructor] Email addresses and usernames are critical bits of information to gather during the process. Email addresses can be used for phishing campaigns destinations for malware, and the first half of a user's log-in credentials. To generate a list of usernames and email addresses, I find it easiest to first identify a few valid usernames from sources, such as the company's website LinkedIn or carefully crafted Google searches. There are tools such as hunter.io, recon-ng and the harvester which can help expedite the email discovery process by scanning the Target's website using search engines and API lookups at popular websites. Once we've identified several email addresses we should begin to see a pattern which typically falls one of three naming conventions. First initial, then last name, first initial dot last name or first name only. Even if you only find a couple email addresses during your osint investigation.…
