- [Instructor] Time for a short history lesson. I know, history can be boring or really dense. I wasn't a big fan in high school either, but it's important because it really changes the way you understand this law. An interesting fact about CCPA legislation is that it started as an individual effort, not a state law. You might wonder why this is important. First, it's important to note that the CCPA is very limited in scope, so it may or may not apply to your business. We'll talk about that a little later. In 2017, a real estate developer took it upon himself to push privacy requirements, and garnered enough support for the Consumer Right to Privacy Act of 2018 to be on the November ballot. Knowing that a general election initiative could be contentious amongst voters and amongst political parties, the legislature instead, built and proposed an alternate bill, the CCPA, and signed it into law on June 28th, 2018 as…
