Why are you monitoring?

- [Instructor] The title of this section seems to be some sort of rhetorical question or complex metaphor, but far be it from me to try some witty banter or fancy word tricks. This is a genuine question. At first, the answer to this question might seem very obvious, with answers such as to monitor the performance of my staff, tools, or systems over time, to report to management or the board of directors, or maybe for something as simple as putting up pretty graphs on a dashboard so everyone in the business can see just how busy we are. Most times that people create reports, they are creating them out of interest or just to see what the data might look like. For many people when they start thinking about reporting, they just start thinking about graphs and how they can show management that everything is green across the board.
