Wireless network antenna types

- We know that our wireless access points communicate with radio waves, and we talked about the different radio frequency bands that might be used. But it's an antenna that actually does the job of transmitting and receiving those signals. So in this video, we want to consider two types of Wi-Fi antennas that we might run into and discuss what might be a good use case for each type. First, let's consider an omnidirectional antenna. Most wireless access points in our homes and business environments, they're omnidirectional antennas. That means they transmit radio waves in all directions perpendicular to the antenna. Consider the access point on screen. It has four omnidirectional antennas. Specifically, these are called dipole antennas. That means most of the signal strength will be going in a horizontal direction. So if you put this in the middle of an office, you would want the antenna to stay vertical, like we see here.…
