- [Narrator] You'll also want to be familiar with the NC command. NC is short for Netcat, and the Netcat command allows you to send and receive raw text on a network connection. This can be a very useful troubleshooting tool, but it's also a technique used by attackers to send raw, malicious commands to a remote server. Let's check out the NC command on a Mac. I'm going to go ahead and type in NC and then the system that I'd like to connect to, we'll connect to linkedin.com, and then the port that I'd like to use for the connection. Now I'd like to test web server commands using Netcat, so I'm going to connect to linkedin.com on port 80, which is the default port for the hypertext transfer protocol, HTTP, that's used for un-encrypted web connections.
