- Measurements and metrics are really important within our organizations. After all, if we aren't measuring our current state and our progress towards a future state, how are we ever going to know if we've improved? And if we've reached the goals that we've set forth in our planning. Now, to do this we're going to need to collect a lot of data. Now, data is collected on products, services, practices, value chain activities, teams, individuals, suppliers, partners, and the entire organization. And by taking all of this information, we can then do some measurement and eventually report on it. Now, when we talk about measurement, this is a means of decreasing the uncertainty based on one or more observations that are expressed in quantifiable units. We're going to measure something.
