- Now, as we start talking about the types of reporting, we first have to talk about what is a report. A report is a detailed communication of information or knowledge about a topic or an event. Now, we can assess and report value realization using a report. This is all about consolidating data from various data sources, correlating the consolidated data, interpreting it, and accessing that information and presenting it in a form that's appropriate for making decisions. The purpose of a report isn't simply to get filed away in a drawer. It's for somebody to read it and be able to make decisions from it. This can include formal service reviews or informational meetings between service providers and service consumers and customers as a way to gather information for these reports.
