Thus far the type has been surrounded by white space, but what if we were to put the type into an enclosure? So here's our starting point, and we could put it inside a rectangle. Obviously we're going to have to change the color to reverse out of a solid color. So we have white on black. Of course it doesn't have to be a perfect rectangle, we could have white space at the top. Or at the bottom. Or we could close up the space, so that the tops of the rectangle actually connect with the tips of the letters, so that we get the sense of the type continuing outside of the rectangle. That it's not fully enclosed. Of course, it doesn't have to be a rectangle. It could be a circle, and then we could use that same principle as we did, having the edges of the type touch the edge of the circle, so that we have implied continuation beyond the edge of the circle. And then we could use some sort of relationship like this. This is actually done using a compound shape, and I'm going to show you how…
