If we're going to consider using an enclosing shape, we'll also want to consider using a line or lines. For this first version, I have a series of lines, all of which have a variable width profile. I'll use my direct selection tool to select one of those. And you can see that I'm using this predefined variable with profile. And behind these, where the type overlaps these lines, I've just put a solid white skewed rectangle to obscure them. I quite like that. I'm wondering if we also need a line below it. Or, perhaps above it, and then, that inevitably leads to me questioning whether I want a, a heavier line above and below. Quite different, we have a blend here from a lighter weight of line to a heavier weight of line that gives this effect, and if we take a look at the blend. You'll see that the blend begins outside of the letter shapes, continues outside of the letter shapes, and I can double-click on that and we have a stepped blend of 41 steps.
