Applying textures with graphic styles

- [Instructor] In this movie, we'll take a look at how to use graphic styles to quickly apply textures with a consistent look. In our file, we have a trophy on a black stand here. And I'd like to add some texture to the stand to give it a marbled appearance. And also notice the stand is just made up of four separate filled objects. I'd like to setup one of these objects with the right texture and options and then apply that to the others. So I'll start by selecting one of the objects, and in the texture panel, I'll choose category, all. And from the popup menu, I'll choose etch-a-scratch. And then I'll click the big plus button to apply it. I'll change the blend mode to normal. I'll reduce the scale down to 5%. And the opacity to 70%. Now to save this all as a graphic style, I'll open the graphic styles panel from the window menu, and I'll hold option here on the Mac or Alt on Windows and click the button to create a new graphic style. I'll call this trophy stand. And then I can take the selection tool, Shift + Click to select the other objects that make up the trophy stand and apply the style. Now using a style also gives me the ability to change the look of all the objects at once just by updating the style. For example, I can select one of the textured objects, take the texture tool, and I'll change the scale to 10%. And rotate it 180 degrees. And while we're at it, let's change the fill color of the object to dark brown. Now to update the graphic style so it applies this new look, I need to open the appearance panel. There's my texture. And I can go to the panel menu and choose redefine graphic style. And all the other objects that make up the trophy stand update. So here we saw the power of combining Texturino with graphic styles in Illustrator, and the benefit of being able to apply a consistent look and update it throughout my artwork with just one click.
