Compound Paths and Shapes

- [Instructor] One of the methods of drawing in Illustrator is by construction, so building more complex shapes form simpler shapes. What we're going to look at in this movie are the basic principles of that. And they take the form of compound paths and compound shapes. We'll take a look at compound paths first. What I'm going to do is select both of these circles and turn them into a compound path. Now you can do that with a shortcut, command eight. You can also do it with a right click and choose make compound path from that menu or go to the objects menu and down at the bottom you'll find compound path there. I'll choose this route seeing as I'm here already. And they are now one object. And you'll notice that the color of the smaller circle has changed because it has just one fill color. What I'm going to do is double click on that to go into isolation mode and I'm going to select this shape and drag it across…
