Creating dashed and dotted lines

- Creating dash strokes in Illustrator is pretty straight forward, and what I'm going to do here is just zoom in on the two lines here which are meant to represent kind of a border on this completely fictitious map. Just here, I'd like these to be dashed to show that border, and so I'm going to choose dashed line. And you can see, immediately, that this has a twelve point dash with a six point gap. I think I'm going to modify that slightly, I'm going to bring that down so maybe it has a six point dash just there, and then I'll decrease the frequency, or the amount, of gap. Let's take that down to about three points. Now you'll notice there are three other pair fields inside of the stroke dialogue. And what I'm going to do is use the border, just here, to design a more funky stroke perhaps. So, I'm going to go ahead and choose dash line, and for my first dash just here I'll make that twelve, like so, with a six point gap…
