Creating a logo with simple shapes
- [Instructor] Incorporating a symbol into your logo makes it unique, and it's your chance to capture the essence of the company with a graphic that's instantly recognizable. The symbol doesn't literally have to describe what the company does. Apple doesn't use a computer, and Nike doesn't use a running shoe. Many successful logos use nothing more than simple shapes, a square or a rectangle, a circle or an oval, a star or a triangle. Logos have only a second to capture someone's attention. So there's no time for fussy detail. Logos need to be reproduced at large and small sizes, so there's also the practical need to keep them simple. These shapes are effective because of their simplicity. But they carry certain connotations. The circle is infinite, or protective. The square is stable, solid, honest.
