Creating a low-key portrait

(gears clicking) - [Von] Welcome to "Drawing Vector Graphics Laboratory." I'm a fan of film noir movies. The lighting in them is always compelling and is categorized as low-key lighting. The light source produces high contrast with really deep shadows and hard highlights. This makes for a very dramatic look and feel, so in this movie, we're going to practice this approach to lighting and do so using simple vector building. This is going to be a fun one, so let's dive into it. Now, the drawing you see in front of you is a drawing I did when I was in high school. And I had watched movies in the film noir style even back then and I really liked that kind of moody, high contrast feel of the lighting, and so that's what I was doing in this drawing that I did back then. This was just a pencil drawing. In this case, we're going to produce the same kind of aesthetic using the low-key lighting style. So where are we going to start…
