- [Man] Now, just in case you don't know what they are. I'm going to quickly explain, very briefly in fact, what ligatures are in text. Now, you may well know this already. I'm sure a lot of you do, but just in case, it's worth having a quick look. So just got an ordinary document here, brand new document as I don't know what fonts you will have on your system. I've chosen something that I know is fairly ligature heavy and just walking you through this and then in a moment, we'll do something really interesting with another shape. Now, you might have noticed that the F and the T here appear to be joined together. They are, that's because a ligature is using one character to replace those two. Now this one is a standard ligature. It's being applied on its own as part of the open type standard.
