Linear gradients

- [Instructor] Let's take a look at creating a linear gradient. In the file I'm working on here, I have a layer specifically for me to create gradients on as a large rectangle in the background and some smaller shapes around the side just for practice. Now to apply a gradient in Illustrator, you've got a couple of choices. Firstly, you can tap the Period key on your keyboard and that will apply a gradient to whichever is in focus, be that the fill, the solid square, or the stroke, the hollow square in the toolbox. I'm just going to undo that, Command + Z, and the other way you can apply it is simply to open the gradient panel and click on a gradient or, indeed, apply a gradient swatch from the swatches. All of those will work. The main difference is that, unlike Photoshop where you can select a gradient tool and start drawing a gradient, that doesn't work in Illustrator.
