- Unfortunately there is no one setting fits all for your laser cutting projects. Different materials have different characteristics, densities, etc., and as such they will respond to intense laser beam cutting in different ways. A general rule of thumb is the denser the material the more power it will take to burn through it. The speed will also be effected by the material. The denser the material, the slower the laser will have to go to penetrate through. I've included a list of some common materials for laser cutting and setting ranges in the exercise files. Keep in mind that these settings are just a good starting point when first cutting materials. If you don't get the result you want on a piece of test material start with the recommended settings and then experiment by changing just the power settings in recorded increments.
