Offsetting a path outline

- [Instructor] Now we're going to create the other shapes in the interstate sign, and we're going to do so with the help of one of the most useful commands in all of Illustrator, Offset Path. And so, go ahead and make sure your original path is selected and then, notice here inside the Properties panel, we have an Offset Path button. Go ahead and click on it in order to bring up the Offset Path dialog box and turn on the Preview check box so that you can see what you're doing. Now, by default, the offset value's set to 10 points, meaning that you're offsetting a duplicate of the path. Notice that 10 points outward all the way around. Now you can change that value to anything you like. Notice, if I press the up arrow key, I'll increase that value in increments of one. If I press shift + up arrow, I increase the value in increments of 10. I, however, want to decrease this value. I want to offset the path inward. And so…
