Outlining type

- [Instructor] When you're sending Illustrator files to other people, sometimes they will ask you to outline the text. And also for some other reasons you may need to outline the text or type. And that might be to apply an effect to it or to use it as part of a design. What I mean by outlining type is that it no longer is type. You cannot change it by using the keyboard, it's actually the shapes of the characters. Or the glyphs as they are more formally known. I'm going to select the text around this design just here and, now, I'm going to outline it. Now there is a shortcut to do this, it's shift, command, O, that would be shift, control, O on Windows, or, if you want to do it from the menu, it's in the type menu and you will see create outlines just there. And this then ceases to be text. You'll notice all of the other bits around it that gave you a clue it was text, when it's selected, have disappeared and these are now…
