- [Instructor] Now it's time to go over some of the things you need to know about working with fills and strokes in Illustrator for the ACA exam. Fills and strokes are what make vector paths visible in our artwork. Without them you wouldn't see anything when your file was output. So working with fills and strokes is a very basic and essential part of Illustrator. I'll start by selecting my star, and note that strokes are the colors, patterns, or gradients that you can apply along the edge of the object. For a stroke you can control the width, color, and style, like for example you can have dash strokes instead of solid ones. Fills are the colors, patterns, or gradients that you can apply inside an object. And you can apply fills and strokes to both open and closed paths. The controls for setting fills and strokes are available in several places. The Properties panel, the toolbar, the Control panel, and the Color panel when you show it's options.
