Starting text on the cover

Starting text on the cover

This next example is not so much a technique as is just something to think about. Typically a book always begins several pages in. You have the front matter consisting of the table of contents, the copyright, acknowledgements, etcetera, and then Chapter 1 begins. And by the time Chapter 1 begins you are probably about at least seven pages into the book. Who's to say that you can't begin the content of the book on the cover of the book? And this is not without precedent. A few years ago Dave Eggers came out with You Shall Know Our Velocity where the text of the book actually begins on the cover of the book. So just something for us to think about.
