- [Instructor] There are many ways to improve the quality of laser cut projects at the machine stage. Quality laser cut projects minimize the residue left by the laser and machine time. The perforated honeycomb bed is the most common bed in a machine and is well-suited for vector cutting because it reduces the contact points to your material. A step further than that is to use little lifts or support pins to lift the material completely away from the laser bed. Be careful with this, as you'll need to recheck the focus height for best burn results. Also, make sure that all of your work pieces are supported so they don't fall out of your sheet in the middle of your cut, causing part failure. Mirrored surfaces need to be cut facedown due to flashback. Flashback occurs when the beam cuts through the material completely and hits the metal bed beneath and bounces the light back up, nicking your material. Another way to keep your work piece clean is to mask materials with a layer of masking…
