- In this movie, I'll show you how to work with the line segment tool which most folks call the line tool because it allows you to draw straight lines, but as it so it turns out, there's a lot you can do with straight lines inside Illustrator. Now I want you to notice in this final version of the software, that we have a handful of layers. So notice that all of my guides have been relegated to this guides layer right here. I've relegated, still more guides to this rectangular grid layer, and then I've gone ahead and put all of my objects on independent layers as well. So the sky layer contains the sky objects. This lines layer, because it's the first one we're going to make, contains that green peak right there. And then the clouds layer, obviously contains the clouds. And so while it's not necessary that you divide everything up into independent layers, it's a very good idea, because it just allows you to easily keep…
