- [Instructor] Now that we've taken our very first steps with basic shapes, it's time to start looking at more complex combinations. And for this, we need to know exactly how to merge or cut shapes. Something that we can accomplish by using the Pathfinder. Let's take a look. I'm here inside of Adobe Illustrator, and I have a very basic document open. The only thing I have here is just two rectangles that are touching here in the middle. I'll just quickly undo this here. Now, I need to create a pill icon. Now, to accomplish this, I'll choose the direct selection tool, marquee drag the top, and I'll drag these rounded corner objects inwards until I get a red edge. Red means that I've reached the maximum roundness of that particular shape or this corner. Same thing, here, marquee drag, drag inwards and we're done. Now, I would like to add some shading here on the side. To accomplish this, I need to use the Pathfinder.…
