Using effects

to change the appearance of objects while still retaining total flexibility, Here in our file we have the makings of a magic ring, with just this one simple path. But what we're going to do is use an effect to take this object like add a drop shadow or feathering and distort paths. the Document Raster Effects Settings, And the dialog box here contains controls for sizing and positioning the 3D object and lighting it. I'll start by clicking Preview So our original object has been revolved But in this case I do want the Left Edge and I also want to offset the revolved effect to create the empty space in the middle of the ring. And I'm going to make that 225 points. And you can see it's revolved 360 degrees. If I make that 180 I get half a ring. I'll go back to 360. And I'm going to click More Options and leave most of these lighting effects as they are and leave most of these lighting effects as they are and just lower the Ambient Light to 35% and just…
