Walk-through setup

- [Instructor] This movie and the movie afterwards is a brief confidence exercise for those of you that are joining that have never used Illustrator before or are apprehensive about using it, and potentially don't even know what vector graphics are. It's a really simple exercise that we draw something together, just to give you an idea that with guidance and with the tuition that you'll receive throughout the rest of the course, it's something you can definitely do. Here though, we're just going to set up now our document to work in. Now on the welcome screen here, you'll see there's an option here for postcard. Don't worry about the units underneath it. Mine say millimeters because my Illustrator is set up that way, but just choose postcard and it will create you a document, like so, and you'll see the Illustrator interface. Now you don't need to worry about all of these different tools that are around if you're seeing this workspace. If you're seeing something different, just hold on a minute because I'm going to change everybody's to the same. At the top right we've got this small icon here just next to the search field. If you click on that and choose Essentials, okay, the interface should now look something like this. A much simpler toolbar, okay. A lot less going on on the screen, just us and the document and just the handful of tools that we need. The other thing I'd like you to do is just now tap D on your keyboard. Okay, just D on its own. Okay, and just have a look at this bottom region of the toolbox. Now, if the solid square on top is white and the hollow square underneath is black, that's perfect. That's exactly what we want. And we are pretty much ready to go and start drawing and we'll do that in the next movie. See you there.
