Welcome to One-on-One

- Hello, I'm Deke McClelland. Welcome to Illustrator one-on-one fundamentals. Part one in a series of three video courses devoted to your ultimate mastery of the world's most powerful vector-based drawing software. One on one is a promise. First of all you'll have me, a seasoned professional with more than 30 years of experience. I started using Illustrator in 1987, the year it came out. I wrote my first book the very next year, and I've been writing books and recording videos about the program ever since. But enough about me, let's talk about you. Assuming that you're willing to put in the time and effort, you are about to learn more about Illustrator than anyone you've ever met. I'll mentor you through every facet that you need to know in the order you need to know it. No crowded classrooms and no scheduling conflicts. It's just you and me one-on-one anytime that it's convenient to learn. Now one-on-one is project-based learning. You'll create professional quality artwork using nothing more than Illustrator's most basic line and shape tools. You'll learn how to precisely copy, fit, display text using variable fonts. You'll learn how to draw anything you could possibly want using the free form pencil tool, the point-by-point curvature tool, and the classic pen. And we'll wrap things up with a look at state-of-the-art screen graphics. If this is your first time using Illustrator, welcome to the club. If you're an old timer, keep an open mind. Ever since Adobe began updating its applications with the regularity of a creative operating system, there have been a lot of changes. In the next several chapters, you'll learn Illustrator from its surprisingly powerful basics to its awe inspiring heights. Get ready to experience Illustrator as I truly hope you've never seen it before.
