The rich world of strokes

- In Illustrator, there are two ways to color a line or shape. There's the fill, which is the color inside the shape, and then there's the topic of this chapter, stroke, which is the color that paints a line or surrounds a shape. Now, don't get me wrong, fill is great. Many of us spent our formative years filling in someone else's outlines in coloring books. But stroke, stroke is so much more. It involves color, of course, but also line weight, which is thickness, a thing called the line cap, the round end that you're seeing here, by the way. Here's a new word, join, which defines the stroke corners, whether round or pointy. Arrowheads, which, why wouldn't you love those, because they point to stuff. Dashes and dots sound boring, but not. And variable width, which means that the weight of the stroke can vary in width. Plus you can assign more than one stroke to any given path outline. In Illustrator, strokes are so…
