Using the thesaurus
It's easy to overlook, but InCopy actually has a thesaurus built into the program. It is not part of any of the default workspaces, so when you want to use it, you need to open it from the Window menu, because of course it is a panel. So go down to the Ts and open the Thesaurus. Now, I have to tell you, it is not the most powerful thesaurus known to man, and often I will actually just jump to Word and use Word's built-in thesaurus, because I just find it to be a bit more robust than InCopy's. But InDesign doesn't even have a thesaurus, so it's nice that we have something here. Let's say that, for example, in this sentence "Beautiful large royal purple flowers," we'd like to get a word other than large. So I am going to double-click the word "large," and then here in the Thesaurus, I'm going to click the little Eyedropper icon, which means pick up the word that's selected and put it into the Lookup field, which is nice.
