Create the front and back cover

[Speaker] Our next step, having set up the document, added the layers, added the grid, added the master page items, is to add some content. I'm going to begin with the cover, or at least make a start on the cover. So you'll see here in the finished version that the cover is a facing page as spread. We have the front cover, on the right and the back cover, on the left and then the spine separating the two. If we come to our work in progress the first page is a right hand page and has no facing page. So that's the first thing that we need to do. I should say that you could make a good case for creating the cover as a separate document. But I'm going to create it all as part of the same document. Although, I will be outputting it to a separate PDF when that time comes. So I need to create a new section here or I need to change my numbering and section options. To do that I'll double click on that triangle and I want to start the page numbering at two or any even number, Doesn't matter since we're not going to see the page numbers on the cover. I'll set the style to Roman Numerals, and then click OK. So we now have a facing page as spread. Before we move on to putting the picture on the cover, I'm going to the third page in the document, right click. Numbering and Section Options, and here Start Page Numbering at two, and change the number scheme back to one, two, three, four. Returning to the cover, come into the Pictures layer. Let's zoom out, because we've got a very large picture that we need to work with. Command or Control D, in the Photos folder, in the Exercise Files folder is the file called Cover. I'm going to start one row down. I'm going to drop a row, so that we have a row of white space, and then click and drag. And I missed my left hand bleed, so I just need to move that over a fraction. So on the left hand side, go all the way to the Bleed guide and on the right hand side I'm going to trim or crop the size of my frame to the Bleed Guide there. I'm going to click on the content grabber and now change the scale of the image. I want the figure to be positioned about here so that when we come to place the type we've got a nice adjusted position between the type and the figure. I'm going to come and choose my Left Hand reference point. I can zoom in just a fraction by pressing Command + and I'll press Command more than to increase the size of my image. With the bottom left hand corner locked in place. I might also just want to experiment with the cropping. I'm clicking my up arrow or down arrow just to reposition the image within the frame. Let's turn off the guides by pressing W. We can see that we still have the page numbers and folios on this page and obviously we don't want them there, so I'm going to press Command + Shift and click to unlock and then delete and then do that on the right hand page as well, so that we don't see the page numbers here on the cover. So there's more to be done on the cover. We need to place the logos and we need to add the text but before we do that we need to establish a color palette. So I'll be coming back to the cover a bit later on.
