Document setup

- [Instructor] Okay let's go ahead and create the document that we're going to be using for this project. Now just a quick word just before we do that actually. I'm going to be using millimeters here throughout, you can use any unit of measurement you want but if you want to copy my units, all you need to do is to remember to type MM after the numbers and InDesign will convert them for you. Okay let's go ahead then and go up to the File menu, come down to New and choose New Document of course you can always use Command N or Control N to do that. And at the top here we've got a range of profiles, let's go to Print and we're going to choose letter the American standard size for paper like our A4 over here where I'm from. And we're going to then come across to the preset details just here, okay so what we're going to call this is brochure like so, something like that will do fine. In fact let's call it AM9 Brochure there we go AM9 Brochure that is a good title for this. The size there is whatever it is and we're then going to change the orientation to landscape, we want the long edge along the top and bottom. For pages we're going to change this to four pages and we want to make sure that facing pages is turned on because that way we'll be working in a spread. You don't need to worry about the page numbering there but the columns we're going to change that to six columns and for the column gutter we're going to make that five millimeters. Moving down just a little bit from there to the margins, we're going to make sure that the link icon is off so it should look like this a broken link and then what we're going to do is tab through each one of these, so we'll start at the top where we're going to do 10 millimeters at the top there. Okay at the bottom we are going to do 15. We're going to do 15 on the inside, and 15 on the outside as well. Coming down to the bleed, we do want these ones linked and we're just going to increase this to three millimeters because this is going to be a print document so we'll keep the bleed for anything that goes over the edge and there will be things that go over the edge. Okay that's it, with that you can hit Create and you can see the document ready to go.
